BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The Whatcom County Council refined an ordinance on Monday, June 26th, for a proposed sales tax that would fund a new Justice Project initiative.
The Justice Project Implementation Plan would fund a new jail and public health, safety and justice services and facilities throughout the county.
Those would include a behavioral health treatment center, a 23-hour crisis relief center and supportive housing services.
The Council will hold a public hearing on July 11th to get feedback on the ordinance from community members.
If approved, it would send a ballot proposition to voters for collection of a 0.2% sales tax to fund the Justice Project.
The hearing will take place on July 11th at 6 p.m. in the Council Chambers and online via Zoom.
