OLYMPIA, WA – A burn ban on campfires is now in effect for Northwest Washington, including Whatcom County.
The state DNR announced the ban on Tuesday as hot, dry summer weather has increased wildfire danger in the area.
It prohibits rule burns, permit burns and all campfires on DNR-protected lands.
Propane or butane camp stoves and backpacking stoves are still allowed.
The ban is in effect for Whatcom, Skagit, Island, San Juan and Snohomish counties.
A campfire ban in southwest Washington was announced earlier in the day.
