BELLINGHAM, WA – Don’t be alarmed if your cell phone starts buzzing out of nowhere Wednesday.

FEMA and the FCC are coordinating a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System and Wireless Emergency Alerts at 11:20 a.m.

The wireless test will be similar to an Amber Alert, with an alert tone that will sound until the phone’s user clicks a button.

A message will appear notifying users of the test and that no action is needed.

The EAS portion of the test will be sent to TVs and radios for about one minute.

Both alerts are being run to make sure the systems can continue to be an effective way of warning the public about emergencies.
