LUMMI NATION, Wash. – Federal funding will soon make its way to some local habitat restoration projects.
The state Department of Ecology announced that Washington will receive nearly $75 million from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to fund 14 projects across the state.
$5.2 million will head to the Nooksack Tribe for Chinook salmon and steelhead trout habitat restoration.
The project involves constructing a berm near the town of Acme.
Another $4.2 million of funding was granted to the Lummi Nation for water quality improvements and flood protection.
Lummi Nation will also get $868,000 to help protect eelgrass beds from invasive European green crabs.
