BLAINE, WA. – A suspect has been arrested in connection to a fatal hit-and-run in Blaine earlier this year.

The incident occurred on March 7th near Drayton Harbor when a motorcyclist tried to pass a car on State Route 548, causing the car to overcorrect and run into two concrete barriers.

33-year-old Ashleigh Woodward of Blaine was killed in the crash and her 13-year-old daughter was sent to Peacehealth St. Joseph Medical Center in Bellingham.

The motorcyclist fled from the scene and was not identified until witnesses and security camera footage gave law enforcement physical details of the cyclist and their bike.

Blaine Police found a suspect with a matching profile four days after the crash.

Posts from the man’s social media accounts matched descriptions of the motorcycle and cell phone records connected him to the scene of the crime.

State Patrol arrested the suspect, 22-year-old Colby Gunderson of Ferndale, on Friday on suspicion of vehicular homicide.

He remains at the Whatcom County Jail on $250,000 bail.
