FERNDALE, WA. – (KGMI.com) A local police force was recently acknowledged for their professionalism.

The Ferndale Police Department says they have completed an accreditation program certifying that they operate under best practices and standards for law enforcement.

The accreditation program from the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs (WASPC) looks at operational effectiveness, fair recruitment and employment practices, use of technology, and codes of conduct.

It also includes an audit of accountability, best practices, and overall performance.

Police Chief Kevin Turner says they are proud to be accredited by the WASPC for their work to ensure high standards.

The WASPC was founded in 1963 and includes 39 elected sheriffs, 240 police chiefs, and representatives from several federal agencies.
