BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Local firefighters have stepped up once again to keep kids warm.

Operation Warm raised enough money in 2022 to provide over 800 free winter coats to students at two Whatcom County elementary schools.

IAFF Local 106 Bellingham and Whatcom Professional Firefighters worked with local businesses to raise money for the cause during the months of October and November.

They placed boots at five local watering holes to collect cash.

Those spots included Fringe Brewing, the Main Street Bar and Grille, Outlaws Saloon, and Cedars in Ferndale, as well as Tony’s Tavern in Custer.

Operation Warm also received numerous generous donations from other businesses and members of the community.

Every child at Custer Elementary School and Birchwood Elementary School will get a new coat.

Over the last eight years, the firefighters have been able to hand out 3,800 coats to kids in Whatcom County.
