BELLINGHAM, WA – (KGMI.com) The National Weather Service in Seattle issued a flood watch in effect from Saturday evening through late Wednesday night.

The advisory involves most of Western Washington, including Whatcom and Skagit Counties.

Forecasters say excessive rainfall and runoff in the coming days could lead to rapid rises on rivers.

They’re advising people who live in flood-prone areas to be prepared to take action should flooding develop.

A winter storm warning is still in effect through Sunday morning with up to three feet of snow possible in the Cascade mountains, including Mount Baker Ski Area.

Whatcom County could also see strong winds of up to 55 mph Friday.

The county has a page for people to stay updated on forecasts and current river conditions.

Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office Division of Emergency Management will be monitoring the weather and said in a statement they are preparing accordingly.
