BELLINGHAM, WA. – (KGMI.com) A former Bellingham Police detective has been charged with theft after an external criminal investigation.

Mount Vernon Police Lt. Mike Moore says the Bellingham Police Department asked them to conduct an external investigation into Detective Adam “Bo” McGinty separate from BPD’s internal investigation.

He was alleged to have used another detective’s name to get dry-cleaning services that were city-paid expenses he was not entitled to.

McGinty was charged in Skagit County Superior Court on Tuesday, October 24th, with theft, official misconduct and falsification of accounts by a public officer.

He was the detective in charge of the Bellingham school administrator scandal before his termination in August.
