BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Local non-profits in Whatcom County will be receiving about $85,000 in grants from the regional First Fed Foundation.

Habitat for Humanity will be getting the largest sum, with $50,000 going to townhome construction in Everson to create low-income housing for 32 people.

The Bellingham Food Bank plans to use the $25,000 they have been granted to make menstrual hygiene products available people to who cannot afford them.

Rounding out the grants are the Max Higbee Center and The National Alliance on Mental Illness who will each receive $5,000 for support for people with developmental disabilities and bilingual community outreach respectively.

The four Whatcom non-profits are among 19 total in the state awarded this year from First Fed, who say the funds are intended to help low-to-medium income and disadvantaged people.
