NORTH CASCADES, Wash. – Washington’s National Parks are getting a record setting infusion of cash to pay for specific projects and programs.
The Seattle Times reports North Cascades, Olympic and Mount Rainier National Parks will receive a total of $1.1 million from the National Parks Fund this year.
A grant for North Cascades will pay for rare carnivore research and digitization of 1963 photographs that made the case for the park’s creation.
Olympic National Park will get money for youth programs and elk monitoring.
Mount Rainier National Park will get the largest grant for trail building and maintenance, creation of an online trail guide, aquatic restoration and to support volunteers who patrol the park’s alpine trails.
The National Parks Fund raises money from private donors, fundraising events, the state’s National Parks license plate program and other non-government sources.
