GUEMES ISLAND, Wash. – Guemes Island Ferry Workers are warning of possible service interruptions as they continue to see crew shortages.

The workers sent flyers to Skagit County officials and ferry passengers that alerted them of the potential disruptions.

The flyer said the delays would be due to ongoing crew shortages that are “exacerbated by the County’s refusal to bargain a fair contract.”

Skagit County officials say they hope nothing will interrupt service and referenced state law that does not give public employees the right to strike.

The County adds that they welcome contract bargaining and have not refused to discuss contract terms with the worker’s union.

Negotiations between the two sides remain ongoing.
