OLYMPIA, Wash. – Governor Jay Inslee has announced that he will not be running for re-election.

The Governor issued a statement saying that it is time for him to pass the torch and he will not seek a fourth term in office.

Inslee has been in the state’s top spot since being elected to his first term in 2012 and is currently the longest serving governor in the U.S.

He represented Washington’s 1st and 4th Congressional Districts in the U.S. House before being elected governor.

In his statement, he highlighted several policies that he helped enact over the past decade, including action on climate change, judicial equity, and gun control.

No prospective candidates have announced their intention to run to replace Inslee, but there has been speculation that several high-ranking Democrats covet the office.
