KINGSTON, WA. – (KGMI.com) A Washington man was found guilty on Tuesday, November 21st, of assaulting law enforcement along with other felony and misdemeanor charges during the January 6th breach of the U.S. capitol.
39-year-old Taylor James Johnatakis from Kingston was convicted of seven charges, three of them felonies, in Washington, D.C. by a federal jury.
The felony charges are obstruction of an official proceeding, civil disorder and assaulting, resisting or impeding certain officers.
He was one of the first rioters to reach the southwest staircase in the capitol.
Johnatakis led a group up the staircase and, using a megaphone, commanded fellow rioters to move against a police line that met them, yelling “pack it in!” repeatedly.
He and a few others also used bike racks to push forcibly into the line of police, resulting in a police officer’s injury.
Johnatakis will be sentenced at a later date.
