WASHINGTON, D.C. – A U.S. Representative from Washington state is among members of congress who want to keep AM radio in cars and trucks sold in the U.S.

Third District Democrat Marie Gluesenkamp Perez is among a bipartisan group sponsoring the “AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act” in both the House and Senate.

The Act would require the Secretary of Transportation to issue a rule requiring every new vehicle sold in the U.S. to include a device that can receive AM radio.

It would have to come as standard equipment and be easily identifiable on the dash board.

Vehicles sold without an AM device before the rule takes effect would have to include an informational sticker to alert buyers.

Some manufacturers of electric vehicles have planned to drop AM radio rather than clear-up interference with the vehicles’ electronics.

Ford has recently announced that it plans to quit installing AM radios in almost all of its vehicles.
