BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The Little Squalicum Estuary project is nearing completion as crews officially connected it to Bellingham Bay last week.

The project began in 2022 to help improve water quality, remove a fish barrier and restore coastal habitat that has been lost to development.

A new pedestrian footbridge over the estuary is now open to public use.

Work on the project in Little Squalicum Park is ongoing, so visitors are being asked to follow all posted signs and to stay on designated trails.

The city says most construction on the estuary is expected to be complete by early October.
