BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Bellingham Police officers subdued a man with a weapon who terrorized shoppers in a parking lot on the Guide Meridian on Sunday afternoon, February 19th.

Calls came in at about 2:30 p.m. that a man with a handgun had stolen items from TJ Maxx, and then was brandishing the gun in the air and pointing it at people in passing cars.

He ran from responding officers and ducked behind vehicles in the busy parking lot.

He pointed the gun directly at a man driving a truck, and then at an officer arriving in a patrol car.

Officers were able to subdue him with non-lethal flexible batons.

The weapon turned out to be a realistic-looking airsoft gun.

They arrested 27-year-old Kelton T. Lane on charges of attempted robbery, assault and obstructing police officers.
