BELLINGHAM, WA. – A convicted felon is back in custody after attempting to escape police twice during a traffic stop.

Bellingham Police say that an officer pulled over a car on Monday night, September 25th, and the drive got out of the car to speak with the officer.

A passenger in the car jumped in the front seat and attempted to drive off with at least one other person inside.

His plan failed as he sent the car over an embankment, injuring the other passenger.

The suspect then attempted to run off, but a K9 handler caught up to him and took him into custody.

A search of the car yielded nearly two pounds of methamphetamine, cocaine, a pellet gun, and a loaded Glock.

The suspect, 41-year-old Joshua Lewis, has an extensive criminal history and remains at the Whatcom County Jail.

The injured passenger was also arrested on drug charges.
