EVERSON, Wash. – A Maple Falls woman is in custody after leading law enforcement on a chase while intoxicated.

Whatcom County Sheriff’s spokesperson Deb Slater said that Everson Police initially tried to pull the driver over on South Pass Road on Friday afternoon, September 22nd.

The driver nearly hit the officers’ car before speeding off.

Sheriff’s Deputies later found the car on Lincoln Street in Everson, but the car took off again, hitting 90 mph and crossing double yellow lines.

The driver, 33-year-old Tempest Duke, was taken into custody after she attempted to turn around in a berry field.

Duke has at least one prior felony DUI conviction, and had a warrant for a separate assault charge at the time of her arrest.

She remains at the Whatcom County Jail on $150,000.
