OLYMPIA, Wash. – Universal masking requirements in healthcare facilities will soon come to an end here in Washington state.

On April 3rd, the state Department of Health will end the mask order that currently requires masking in healthcare, long-term care, and adult correctional facilities for people five and older.

The department says COVID 19, RSV and flu rates and hospitalizations have continued to decline in 2023.

But Secretary of Health Dr. Umair Shah says masks have been, and continue to be, an important tool to keep people healthy and safe.

The DOH still recommends masking for patients, healthcare providers, and visitors in all healthcare settings.

They will also continue to issue and update COVID guidance on masking, vaccines, ventilations and other preventative measures.
