OLYMPIA, WA. – (KGMI.com) Another $460,000 was secured from a chicken producer in the ongoing Attorney General price-fixing conspiracy lawsuits.
House of Raeford Farms was the most recent to settle in the lawsuit, and only make up a single-digit percentage of the producers that control the national chicken market.
The AG previously won $40.6 million from lawsuits against 19 chicken producers and three tuna companies.
The money comes as a result of lawsuits against the major producers for conspiratorially increasing prices on products.
Now, only two remain of the 19 chicken producers named in the suit.
Funds were redistributed to low-income households in Washington beginning early December and will continue to reach these families in the coming months.
The AG’s Office says that these companies drove up the price of chicken starting in at least 2008.
They say that consumers overpaid millions in dollars as a result.
