BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The months-long closure of Mt Baker Highway is nearing its end.

WSDOT lead engineer Melissa Ambler said they’re 80% done with the work they need to finish to reopen.

The highway is scheduled to reopen at the beginning of October after a nearly four-month-long closure.

However, construction won’t be finished by the time the highway reopens.

Crews will still be working on the 105-foot-long bridge that will allow fish to migrate.

Ambler said drivers may see single lane closures until work on the bridge is finished.
