OLYMPIA, Wash. – Leaders in Olympia hope a new state law will make things less expensive for expecting parents.

Governor Inslee signed SB 5581, which seeks to cut costs for maternal-support services and postpartum care.

Oak Harbor Republican Senator Ron Muzzall says the cost of childbirth can make an already challenging life event even more taxing.

The measure directs the Insurance Commissioner to work with health care providers to lower or eliminate deductibles and copays.

The bill was part of a package of legislation from Muzzall focused on improving maternal support.
