OLYMPIA, Wash. – Over 15,000 Lyft drivers in Washington are already seeing the benefits of recent legislation that gives more rights to rideshare drivers.
The State Department of Labor and Industries say they have received 45 complaints from drivers after the new law took effect this year.
L&I says that an investigation into three of the complaints found that Lyft underpaid their drivers by a quarter of a cent for each minute and mile of their trips.
The department told Lyft about the complaints, and a self-audit led to more than 15,000 Lyft drivers getting nearly $193,000 in back pay.
The recently enacted laws for these kinds of drivers include minimum trip rates, the right to paid sick time and paid rest breaks.
Rideshare drivers can find complaint forms and learn more about their rights and protections on L&I’s website.
