FERNDALE, Wash. – A striking new mural featuring indigenous art has been completed on the side of a Main Street building in Ferndale.

Kevin’s Car Wash owner Kevin Lee commissioned artist Káa Sháyee to create the 43-foot mural featuring an orca whale and eagle.

The mural, titled “Ancestral Spirits,” is done in Tlingit formline style design.

Both Lee and Shaylee are enrolled Tlingit Alaska natives.

Lee says he has commissioned another mural for the opposite wall of his business that should be completed later this summer.

The Ferndale Arts Commission administered the mural project and both the Arts Commission and Lee contributed funds to the project.
