NEWHALEM, Wash. – Highway 20 has reopened to through traffic.
WSDOT said that crews cleared wildfire debris within the 51-mile closure between Newhalem and the Silver Star Campground and the road reopened at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, August 23rd.
As the Sourdough and Blue Lake Fires continue to burn in that area, the road will be open for through traffic only.
Pilot cars will lead traffic over the North Cascades Highway from 9:30 am to 8:30 pm for the first few days after the road reopens.
Recreation within that area still remains closed due to the wildfires.
