BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Several elected officials were in Bellingham on Friday, August 18th, to celebrate the groundbreaking of a new health center for the homeless.
U.S. Rep. Rick Larsen joined State Senator Sharon Shewmake and Whatcom County Executive Satpal Sidhu in introducing The Way Station.
The station will provide 24-7 medical relief, health care services, restrooms, showers and connections to stable housing for people experiencing homelessness.
That project was a collaboration between Unity Care NW, The Opportunity Council, PeaceHealth and Whatcom County.
Rep. Larsen and Sen. Shewmake each secured millions of dollars in funding to help get the project off the ground.
The Way Station is scheduled to open sometime next year at 1500 North State Street.
