PEACEFUL VALLEY, Wash. – Dozens of residents in Peaceful Valley are protesting a proposed gravel mine in their neighborhood.

KING5 reports that the mine would bring trucks up a winding, local roadway up to 50 times a day, 6 days a week.

Residents are concerned that the quarry’s operations will diminish their property values and pollute local watersheds.

County documents show that mining would take place in three phases between 2025 and 2045.

Mine owners Cowden Inc. have not commented on their upcoming plans.

Frustrated residents have launched a website and petition in an effort to block the mine from operating.
