BELLINGHAM, Wash. – A person died over the weekend after being hit by a BNSF freight train in Bellingham.
Fire Chief Mitch Nolze with South Whatcom Fire Authority says responders were dispatched to reports of a train versus pedestrian incident around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday night, July 16th.
South Whatcom, along with the Bellingham Fire Department, arrived near the 1100 block of Chuckanut Drive and found the body.
BNSF spokesperson Lena Kent says the incident did not occur at a railroad crossing and there were no reported injuries to crew members.
Trains began moving through the area again just after 10 p.m.
The victim has not been identified and the incident is still under investigation.
