OLYMPIA, WA – A Vancouver to Portland high speed train under discussion would likely include Bellingham among its stops.
Democratic members of congress from Washington have asked the Biden administration for $198 million to plan a route for what would be the fastest train in the U.S.
The Seattle Times reports the funds would come from the infrastructure program passed by congress in 2021.
State lawmakers have already pledged up to $150 million toward the project.
An independent legislative review of the train system done in June estimated an overall cost of $63 billion.
The 250 mile per hour train is projected to take just an hour to travel from Seattle to either Vancouver or Portland.
Bellingham is among stops envisioned by a study commissioned by the state in 2019.
