BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Last week, the Washington State Patrol warned of an increase in fake gold scammers along Washington state roadways.

Some of those scammers were recently apprehended on I-5 in Whatcom County.

Trooper Kelsey Harding said that several people alerted police to the suspects, who were attempting to sell “gold plated” jewelry for just $5 near Sunset Drive.

Callers added that the car was driving erratically on I-5 with an unrestrained child seen sitting on a passenger’s lap.

None of the occupants had a valid driver’s license and the car was impounded.

A child safety seat was not found in the vehicle.

The suspects have not been identified.
