BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Bellingham Police are asking for witnesses to come forward as they investigate a fatal shooting at Lake Padden Park.

BPD Lt. Claudia Murphy says officers responded to the east park entrance just before 7 p.m. on Monday, May 15th, to find witnesses providing first aid to a man suffering a gunshot wound.

Medics arrived and applied live-saving measures, but the victim died at the scene.

Police have identified him as a 37-year-old Mount Vernon man but have not released his name pending proper notification of family.

Detectives are investigating a motive for the shooting and ask that anyone who saw what happened or may have photos or video from around the time of the incident to contact them.

Lake Padden Park was closed on Monday evening but reopened on Tuesday.
