WASHINGTON, D.C. – Recent decisions by the U.S. Supreme Court have prompted calls for reform and a new poll finds that sentiment runs strong in Washington state.

The Crosscut/Elway poll finds term limits and mandatory retirement ages for justices have strong support, even across party and other demographic lines.

Almost 60% favor term limits that would rotate and allow every president to nominate a new justice every two years.

Adding more justices to the court was the one reform that did not receive majority support.

Washingtonians’ overall view of the court is negative by a small margin: 46% to 44%.

As for some issues likely to be heard by the court, 59% agree that congress, not the president, has the power to cancel student debt.

Keeping race out of college admissions is favored by 68% and most believe employers should not be required to accommodate an employee’s religious practices.

Barring transgender girls from girls’ sports is favored by 56% of respondents.
