BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Whatcom County voters will decide on a proposed sales tax to fund a new County jail and other projects this November.
The county council voted 5-0 on Tuesday, July 11th, to put the tax on the upcoming ballot.
If it passes, the measure will institute a sales and use tax of 0.2 percent, or 20 cents for every $100 purchase.
The revenue would be used to fund several projects under the Justice Project Implementation Plan, including a new County jail.
The Council is looking for committees to prepare pro and con statements for the voters’ pamphlet.
Community members can volunteer for a committee by calling or emailing the County Council Office by July 24th.
