GLACIER, Wash. – Rangers with the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest want to let travelers along the Mt. Baker Highway know if you are seeing smoke in the air, it is most likely the annual prescribed burning that could begin any day now.

The Forest Service announced last week they will begin the burning to reduce hazardous fuel and debris whenever weather conditions will allow it to be done safely.

They urge the public to pay attention for signs posted along access roads and trailheads where burns will be occurring and to stay away from those areas for a few days.

The operations are expected to run through June and people in the area with respiratory problems are encouraged to contact their local Ranger District office for notifications of burns.
