FERNDALE, Wash. – Repair work on a breached levee has been completed in Ferndale.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said that work on the levee, which was damaged by floodwaters over the Christmas weekend, was finished as of Monday, January 9th.
The levee provides flood protection to Marine Drive, the community of Marietta and Slater Road, and the only arterial road serving the Lummi Nation and Sandy Point communities.
The 200-foot section near Marine Drive was breached due to a combination of winter weather factors, including king tides and ice jams.
