OLYMPIA, Wash. – The 2023 legislative session gets underway on Monday, January 9th, in Olympia.
Democrats hold solid majorities in both houses, but Republicans are speaking out about priorities they say need to be addressed.
Senate Republican budget lead Lynda Wilson says it is time to consider tax breaks.
Senate minority leader John Braun says drugs, crime and education are critical issues.
Governor Inslee addressed relocation of the homeless ahead of Monday’s session.
KOMO News reports that Inslee will pitch a new $4 billion proposal for housing and homelessness that would build supportive housing and clear rights-of-way.
Inslee says the funds would also help boost housing supply and lower the cost of rent and prices.
He told reporters that Washington state cannot continue to allow people to camp next to playgrounds or squat near freeways.
