BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Your future trips up to Mount Baker or through the Squalicum High School area will soon take a bit longer.
WSDOT is planning on closing a portion of the Mount Baker Highway to replace a salmon culvert with a bridge over Squalicum Creek.
The project will add an additional three miles of habitat for endangered Chinook salmon.
The closure will be between Britton and Noon Roads in Bellingham starting in May.
Detours through the area will be in place, with some additional road closures to discourage shortcuts in residential neighborhoods.
The project is expected to wrap up around November.
