BELLINGHAM, WA. – A suspected serial burglar was taken into custody following an extensive investigation by the Bellingham Police Department.
Investigators had been looking into a string of burglaries targeting apartment complexes in the early morning hours dating back to June.
Video surveillance linked a suspect with a distinct hairline to many of the burglaries.
Officers located the suspect, identified in jail records as 34-year-old Joseph Sanders, on West Bakerview Road on Sunday, October 8th.
Sanders fled on foot and eventually got into a car in an attempt to escape.
However, officers pulling over the car watched as he jumped out of the moving vehicle and ran off again through a parking lot.
An officer chased him down and took him into custody.
In total, Sanders is accused of stealing over $18,000 in bikes, a $12,000 motorcycle, and may be linked to other burglaries.
He remains at the Whatcom County Jail on $75,000 bail.
