BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Seven people were injured after a wrong-way driver hit several vehicles north of Bellingham.

The Washington State Patrol says that a car heading north in the southbound lanes on the Guide sideswiped a car heading south near Kelly Road around 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 21st.

Then the wrong-way driver struck a second car head-on.

They continued driving north, hitting a third vehicle and sending it into a ditch before the wrong-way car burst into flames.

The driver of the wrong-way car, 45-year-old Aaron Dexter of Blaine, and a 10-year-old passenger were taken to Harborview Medical Center.

A 20-year-old passenger of one of the other vehicles was also transported to Harborview.

Three other drivers and a 3-year-old passenger were also injured and taken to Peacehealth St. Joseph Medical Center.

Charges against Dexter are pending, as WSP believes he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash.
