BELLINGHAM, WA – The Skagit River has flooded in much of Skagit County, reaching in one spot within inches of the flood event heights in 2021.

After heavy rainfall, national aid has been deployed to the area, starting Monday afternoon.

The US Army Corps of Engineers started work repairing the Hamilton levee Monday afternoon.

The highest point the river is supposed to reach is in Concrete at 4 p.m. Tuesday, climbing to nearly 39 feet.

An area near Mount Vernon is also predicted to reach a height of nearly 35 feet, only a little over one foot under 2021’s peak.

The Red Cross has set up an emergency shelter at Hamilton First Baptist Church in Sedro-Woolley that opened at 2 p.m. Tuesday.

The shelter is stocked with cots, food and other urgent needs and located at 797 Hamilton Cemetery Rd.

The Red Cross says everyone in the area needs to get to safety immediately.

The City of Sedro-Woolley wants to remind drivers to not drive over flooded roads.

Residents are also advised to be prepared to take action in protecting homes, livestock and families from floodwaters in the next 24 hours.
