SANDY POINT, Wash. – Whatcom County Fire District 17 and the Lummi Island Fire District will be enacting a stage 2 burn ban beginning 8 a.m. on Friday, July 7th.

Whatcom News reports the respective Fire Chiefs for the districts cite current fuel moisture levels and expected continued warm weather as the reasons for the move to a stage 2 ban.

The upgraded ban means no outdoor burning is allowed, including recreational campfires and beach fires.

District 17 includes Sandy Point Shores and Heights, Neptune Heights and Beach and western portions of the Lummi reservation.

Violations of the ban can result in fees starting at $250.
