OLYMPIA, Wash. – Washington is on the verge of naming its state dinosaur.
Suciasaurus rex is the nickname given to the dinosaur after a fossilized left femur of the therapod was found on the shore of Sucia Island State Park.
Therapods were carnivorous dinosaurs that walked on two legs, including Tyrannosaurus and Velociraptor.
It’s the only dinosaur fossil ever found in the state.
A group of Pierce County 4th graders asked their representative to introduce legislation to make it the state dinosaur in 2019.
Their efforts have paid off as the bill has passed this year and is headed to the governor’s desk.
