FERNDALE, WA. – (KGMI.com) Axton Road was closed Tuesday afternoon, October 24th, for an investigation into a serious DUI crash at the intersection with Aldrich Road.

The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office says a driver who is suspected of being impaired was southbound on Aldrich when they ran the stop sign.

The driver collided with vehicles traveling both east and west on Axton.

The driver who caused the crash and the eastbound driver were both transported to the hospital in critical condition.

The westbound driver and a passenger were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Axton re-opened at about 5 p.m.
