The Washington Huskies are headed to the national college football championship.

They held off the Texas Longhorns 37-31 last night in the Sugar Bowl.

Michael Penix Jr. threw for 430 yards and two touchdowns in the win.

Rome Odunze and Ja’Lynn Polk each caught over 120 yards receiving.

The 14-0 Huskies will meet undefeated Michigan in the national title game on Monday after the Wolverine’s overtime win over Alabama.

 

The Seattle Seahawks’ playoff hopes took a hit over the weekend.

They lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers 30-23 on Sunday and now fall to 8-8 on the season.

The Seahawks failed to stop the Steelers’ run game, allowing the second-most rushing yards of the season, and could not manage to find the end zone in the second half after scoring two in the first.

Seattle is now in a three-way tie with Green Bay and New Orleans for the final wildcard spot in the NFC.

They’ll cap off the regular season in Arizona on Sunday with a playoff spot on the line against the Cardinals.

The team recently placed Jamal Adams on the injury reserve, effectively ending his season, and cut veteran defensive end Frank Clark.

 

The Seattle Kraken seem to have hit their midseason stride.

They beat the defending champion Las Vegas Golden Knights 3-0 in the Winter Classic yesterday.

It marks the fifth straight win for the Kraken, extending their biggest win streak of the season.

Joey Daccord won game MVP after recording his second career shutout and the first in the Winter Classic’s history.

The Kraken scored all of their goals within the first five minutes of each period.

They now have a winning record for the first time this season (15-14-9).

 

A top quarterback in Washington state made a big decision yesterday.

Former Cougars QB Cam Ward announced that he’s declaring for the NFL draft, just weeks after entering the transfer portal.

He ranked eighth in the country, throwing for just over 3,700 yards and 25 TD’s for WSU this season.

 

A few prep basketball winter tournaments took place over the weekend.

The Lynden girls beat undefeated Prosser to advance to the Lynden Christmas Classic championship, where they made quick work of 3A Snohomish 51-29.

The Lynden Christian boys found success in the Mountlake Terrace Holiday Tournament.

They beat Mountlake Terrace 66-64 in overtime to get their second win of the event.

The Meridian boys beat Squalicum 49-35 in the Trojan Storm Winter Classic championship.

The Squalicum girls got revenge with a 43-38 win over Stanwood to win the girls’ side of the Trojan Storm Classic title game.
