FERNDALE, Wash. – A suspected DUI driver faces a number of charges after State Patrol troopers had to use spike strips to stop him on I-5 early Monday, July 17th.

Court documents state a trooper observed a red pick-up speeding northbound near Meridian Street just before 2 a.m.

The driver sped away recklessly and another trooper deployed spike strips to stop the vehicle north of Ferndale.

The truck was reported stolen out of California and was being sought in connection with an armed robbery in central Oregon.

Troopers found 22-year-old Ethan Colson behind the wheel with open alcohol, a half-smoked joint and a handgun in the truck.

Colson is a convicted felon who is legally barred from possessing firearms.
