ACME, Wash. – If your plans to keep cool this summer involved some tubing, you are going to have to avoid the South Fork of the Nooksack River.
The Whatcom County Council voted 4 to 2 during their Tuesday, July 11th, meeting to put a tubing ban in effect on the river.
Legislation regarding recreational activities on the river was proposed earlier this year to protect salmon habitats.
Opponents of the ban say it will have a devastating impact on the local economy.
The ban will formally take effect on July 25th.
