BLAINE, Wash. – Twenty-nine people were found in a rail car during a human smuggling attempt in Blaine last month.
Customs and Border Patrol Public Affairs Specialist Jason Givens said the group was located by officers using an X-ray inspection system at the Peace Arch Port on August 31st.
The group was said to be dangerously concealed in the rail car before being apprehended and processed by Border Patrol and Homeland Security agents.
There have been seven human smuggling attempts in Blaine since last November, involving 61 people on southbound trains from Canada, according to Givens.
He said Border Patrol has since stepped up rail enforcement in Blaine in an effort to intercept illegal crossings.
