LYNDEN, Wash. – First it was cows and now an emu has been blamed for causing a slowdown on one of Whatcom County’s busiest roadways.

WSDOT says that an emu got loose on the Guide near East Pole Road south of Lynden Monday evening, May 15th.

WSP was able to shut down a lane and get traffic moving through the area while they located the emu’s owner.

The emu was corralled by its owner a short time later.

Over the weekend, a stray herd of cows forced a similar lane closure on I-5 near Ferndale.
