BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Washington’s roadways will be seeing more patrol units over the next few weeks.

The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office announced that their “Drive Sober Or Get Pulled Over” campaign kicked off as of this past Friday, August 18th.

Bellingham, Ferndale, and Everson Police Departments, along with the Skagit County Sheriff’s Office, will also participate in the extra patrols through September 4th.

All agencies are partnering with Northwest Region Target Zero to prevent traffic fatalities as summer comes to an end.

Each year, DUI-related fatalities spike between mid-August and Labor Day Weekend.

Target Zero is reminding people to plan for a safe ride home for both themselves and others who choose to drink.
